What to Expect During Your Bodywork / Massage Session

Your massage or bodywork sessions will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room.  Generally, soft music will be played to help you relax.  Although no two massages are exactly alike; Since the body is always in a state of flux and what you may need / want to address in one session, may not be relevant in another, you may request a certain technique and / or modality.

Most massage and bodywork sessions are traditionally performed with the client unclothed (the massage practitioner leaves the room so you may undress in privacy). However, you may decide what amount of clothing you prefer to wear for your own comfort.  Nonetheless, you will remain properly draped during the massage session (i.e. Underneath a set of sheets and perhaps a blanket too for extra warmth).

A typical full-body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, head, neck, and shoulders.  You will not be touched inappropriately (i.e. On or near your genitals (male or female) or breasts (female).  A light oil and / or massage cream (with or without aromatherapy essential oils) may be used to permit muscles to be worked on without causing excessive friction to the skin.  In a general Swedish Massage, the session may start with broad flowing strokes which will help calm the nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension.  As your body becomes relaxed, pressure may gradually be increased to relax specific areas and to relieve muscular tension.  You should communicate to the therapist immediately if you feel any discomfort or pain.

I offer 60 and 90 minute sessions.  Many people prefer the longer sessions for optimal relaxation.  Always allow relaxation time prior to and after the massage session.  Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended that you drink plenty of pure water following your massage.  After a massage, most people feel very relaxed.  Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity.  After the initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days.
